Welcome!
Welcome! I am Janet Kline, Founder & President of The Charlotte Celiac Connection and the organizer and host for the 2007 Walk for Celiac Disease. It was important for me to not only raise money for celiac research but to continue on my mission to increase awareness here in Charlotte, NC. Thus, in late January I decided to organize this walk. The following people were with me throughout the planning process and deserve special mention. We had tons of people who helped us setup the Pavilion and then stayed late to clean up. I thank Julia Krajewski, Shanna Fox (& mom Kathy), Betty Reynolds, Cathy Thompson, Linda Jackson, all of Rebecca's friends (Sam, T.J. Bridget, Chris, Sarah & Camille), Daphne Ledford, Caroline & Al Herdle, and Pat, Jackie, and Michelle Fogarty. If I missed you, please forgive me, but I thank you from the bottom of my heart. This event could not have been so successful without all of YOU!

We had great signs for our walk! Two large signs were placed on the main street leading to the park and the one above was located at the Pavilion's entrance. I thank Erica Messenheimer (who works with me) for making our signs!
Phylis is my ROCK! She is a "doer" and would repeatedly ask me "what else can I do for you?"She made sure we had all the Health Stores involved and obtained the Charlotte Gastro sponsorship. She ran all over town tyring to get us sponsorships (on such short notice) and baked some muffins. She helped Char and I with the prep work before the walk and was there from morning until night helping with setup and cleanup! She is also one of the most positive and inspirational people I know! Phylis is one in a million... much rarer than celiac :)
Charlotte Gross, was also my ROCK! She was not only instrumental in our obtaining the national Redbridge sponsorship, she made lots of signs for inside the Pavilion. This made it easy for people to find their way around. Char also helped get other gifts for the raffle, baked some goodies and helped me prep a few days prior to the walk. Char is dedicated and committed to helping make a difference for us. Char kept me energized and is a rare gem too :)
Carol, Steve & Rebecca planned and organized all of the children's activities. This was a huge success and all the kids had sooo much fun!! They also made sure every child received little prizes and treats (see Children's Activities page - here). Carol and Steve are the parents of Rebecca who was diagnosed with celiac disease as a child (now a young teen). They have worked hard around Charlotte spreading the word about our group and trying to increase awareness. They also came early to help us setup the Pavilion. Carol, Steve & Rebecca come to every monthly luncheon meeting and never tire in educating and teaching new celiacs on how to manage their new lifestyle. Thank You for All You Do!!!!
Christy has a big heart and wanted to help with the walk. Christy made all the name tags and 100 chocolate cupcakes (with green sparkles) for the kids! I also think Christy recruited the most number of family and friends to come out and walk with us :)
Ruth facilitated as the nurse on site. Fortunately, we were accident free. Ruth (and her husband Tom) have tons of energy and helped us setup, cleanup and carry load after load to my car. Importantly, Ruth and Phylis took all the leftover food to the shelter!
