Dr. Fasano established the Center for Celiac Research (CFCR) at The University of Maryland in 1996 and it was the first celiac center opened in
the United States.  Dr. Fasano is a recognized expert on celiac disease and a leading researcher in the United States.  It was Dr. Fasano's study
that proved one in every 133 Amercians have celiac disease and was the catalyst for the current awareness in Celiac Disease we are seeing
today in America!

CCFR engages in Celiac Disease clinical care, diagnostic support, education, and research.  The goal of CFCR is to increase the awareness of
Celiac Disease in order to provide better care, better quality of life and more adequate support for the Celiac Disease community.

CFCR is also engaged in many research efforts, such as epidemiology, basic and clinical.  Epidemiology research to establish the prevalence of
the disease worldwide. Basic research (pathophysiology, autoimmune mechanisms, inflammatory processes, genetics). Clinical research
(clinical spectrum of Celiac Disease, association with other autoimmune diseases, complications including infertility, osteoporosis and malignant
transformation).
