Summary (completed after event)

Last night was a special treat as we went to Table, a five star restaurant affiliated with Blue.  If you
recall, we went to Blue a little over a year ago because our member Betty is the mother-in-law of Chef
Gene.  Chef Gene is the executive chef for both Table and Blue.  We hugely thank Chef Gene for
developing one of the first and most wonderful gluten-free menus in the Charlotte area.  Last night we
had Chef Ben whom I talked with for several minutes before everyone arrived.  Ben was very well
versed on the gluten-free diet and even listened to my long recitation on celiac.  I think we met
everyone managing and working in the restaurant, including Alex the owner.  We thank each and every
one of you for a wonderful evening.

We were definitely given the royal treatment and we’re treated like Kings and Queens from the minute
we walked through the door until we left many hours later.  The restaurant was crowded but since we
had a large turnout, we were given a private dinning room.  Interestingly, Table codes their standard
menu with a triangle for gluten-free items making it very easy to find safe items at a glance.  We were
all amazed and had big smiles as we saw the majority of the items had a triangle.  All our meals were
incredible and looked like works of art.  My trout was definitely a Michelangelo and was wonderfully
delicious.  We also had a choice of several desserts.  Quite a few us could not resist the very rich
flourless chocolate cake, which magically melted in our mouths.

Thank you to the entire Table team for making our dining experience too
wonderful for words!

Our room was setup with three tables of eight, which provided for very intimate and all-inclusive
conversations.  We welcomed several new members: Connie & Mitchell, Mary & Ryan, Shanna & David and
Jeff.  There was no loss of conversation and we covered a broad array of topics.  As usual, there was
lots of great information and tips to share on managing our celiac gluten-free life.

We also
welcomed Kate back who was with us from the very first meeting but has been very busy with
other commitments (like Project Linus).  We found out that Kate is now a freelance writer for the
Charlotte Observer and reports on people and events in the Ballantyne area.  Kate is going to write an
article on our group and last night’s dinner experience.  So, look for her article in a couple of weeks,
which should be published in the Sunday Feb. 4th newspaper.
www.charlotteobserver.com  Kate will send
me the article and I can distribute to everyone.  It was like old times and so wonderful talking to Kate
again, she is always a wealth of information.

Rebecca Says…the duck was absolutely delicious.  I was quite delighted with the turnout and was glad
to see lots of new faces.  I was also extremely happy to see all the faces from last year.  The
chocolate cake was to die for and mine included ice cream dripping down the sides.  I am looking forward
to the next meeting and seeing everybody again! (a big smile)

Note:  Rebecca, in addition to all her other talents, is a model.  To see Rebecca model her beautiful
eyebrows, go to

closed.  You’re beautiful Rebecca and we’re very proud of you!

Making Tracks for Celiacs… Yes, Charlotte – The Queen City – will host its “first walk” for the
upcoming
Sixth International Walk for Celiac Disease.  All funds raised will go directly to the Center
for Celiac Research at the University of Maryland.  We’re thinking of having it early-May since
Charlotte gets so hot in late-May and June.  We will keep the format simple to make it easy on all.
Please start to think what you can do to help and donate/raise funds.  Now that we have Kate and two
other media contacts (Karen and Tonia) and Nancy, whom we just found out, is a marketing expert, we
will have great coverage!  Our Rebecca volunteered to work on the children’s program/events.  We want
everyone out that day and we want the children to have fun and feel like they are helping for a good
cause too.  It will be a walk / picnic where everyone brings a dish to share.  We will also try to solicit
some corporate sponsors and donors so we can hold a raffle for all walk participants.  We’ll spend the
day getting much needed exercise and having lots fun and all for one of the best causes – Celiac
Research & Awareness.  This is all in the very initial stages so more details to come.  Charlotte is
becoming a major player in the nation and with the current momentum to raise celiac awareness, it is
only appropriate that we step up to the plate and become a major player.  The Queen would approve!
(smile)

Deepest Sympathy – Please keep our member Martha in your prayers and thoughts.  Martha lost her
husband of 48 years in early December.  As you can imagine, she misses him terribly.  When I spoke
with Martha, you could tell she was trying very hard to be positive but it’s going to take much time to
heal.  I hope that we can get her out for our walk in May.

Have a great month and don’t forget we have a couple of things coming up in February.

Warm Regards, Janet
