Food Labeling Law - Effective January 1, 2006!
On August 2, 2004, President George W. Bush signed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection
Act (S. 741) into law. The bill requires food manufacturers to clearly state if a product contains any of
the eight major food allergens responsible for 90% of all allergic reactions: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree
nuts, fish, shellfish, wheat, and soy.

Proposal for a Celiac Disease Screening Program in Santa Clara County
The institution of the Celiac Disease Screening Program (CDSP) is intended to reveal a greater portion
of the “iceberg,” which is celiac disease.  The program will create an awareness of the problem not only
in the general community, but in the medical community as well.  Education of both sides of health care

A Prevention Method?  
Press Release Feb. 22, 2005 - A method for preventing Type 1 Diabetes was discovered at the University
School of Medicine.  Dr. Fasano says this significant discovery could eventually lead to the development
